Bacterial vaginosis (BV) is a common vaginal condition caused by an imbalance of the naturally occurring bacteria in the vagina. This imbalance leads to an overgrowth of certain bacteria, disrupting the normal vaginal microbiome. While not considered a sexually transmitted infection (STI), BV can increase your risk of contracting STIs.
What is in the Wash:
Echinacea root (Echinacea angustifolia) - stimulates the activity of immune cells.
Chickweed (Stellaria media) - soothes itching and irritation while reducing swelling, redness, and discomfort.
Yarrow (Achillea millefolium) - is an antimicrobial, antiseptic, and anti-inflammatory that promotes wound healing and prevents infection.
Goldenrod (Solidago gigantea) - is an antifungal, anti-inflammatory, and an astringent.
Calendula flower (Calendula officinalis) - is an anti-inflammatory that calms irritation, reduces itching, and supports natural vaginal flora.
How to Use:
This wash can be used by both male and female genitalia.
Soak 4 tablespoons of the wash blend in 1 quart (4 cups) of hot water for 2–3 hours or overnight.
Strain before use. Use at room temperature, or gently warm if desired.
Use up to twice daily for 5 days. If sexually active, it is recommended that partners also use the wash to help prevent the spread.
Discard water after each use.
For those with a vagina:
Apply gently to the labia and vaginal opening with a clean washcloth, or sit in the water and use the washcloth to apply.
For those with a penis:
Apply gently to the shaft and scrotum with a clean washcloth. The washcloth can also be wrapped around the area for added contact.
